NEW! Built in Affiliate Link Redirector

date: 2007-07-14
by: Venetsian

We just updated the SEO Website CMS and we added one more very useful feature - Link Redirector. Now you can use 302 (FOUND) link redirection for all your affiliate links or other links that you don‘t want to pass any link juice to. We also made sure that the redirector.php file is in the robots txt disallowed list so that no search engine spider won‘t access it. Also we might put browser checking but I don‘t really think that‘s needed for now.. read more..

Mod Rewrite .htaccess problem with some web hosts

date: 2007-07-06
by: Venetsian

We just tracked one very serious issue with .htaccess Mod Rewrite URL rewriting for our SEO friendly URLs. This problem seems to be server configuration related and is occurring only on some web hosts. We tested the SEO Website CMS with Maiahost.com, BlueHost.com, HostGator.com and we found that it works well, but the app-handlers have to be commented. Today we tried to work on GoDaddy and we found one very serious issue as it seems that our standard way of using multiple conditions does not work with them. This requires some drastic changes in the modules as we will have to made dynamic moduling where the whole loading program will have to select the proper module instead of having separate PHP files for each module. In one hand this is good as it will give unlimited custom modules which is really nice functionality, but on the other hand will require a lot of coding to re-write the whole loader and administrator panel to support that new modular flexibility.... read more..

The Subdomain Directory Ended up in Google's Supplemental Index

date: 2007-06-21
by: Venetsian

Unfortunately Google did not foll for the trick and put the whole directory into the supplemental index only the main page was kept. I assume this is mainly due to low PR and thus all this pages with so much duplicate content (all seo web cms directories have the same structure) caused it to fall in the supplemental pages. The best thing to do is to quickly revise our strategy and get some unique content or boost the pr. I guess its easier to put/generate some content rather than start link building, but if both can be achieved it would be even better.

I'm currently working on one idea for scrapping the web for some unique content, but that theory is still to be developed properly and then tested. I'm really happy that we did not released the public version with that directory issue because at least now we can control the situation and it won't get out of hand to get us punished by Google for tons of duplicate content.... read more..

Trying to optimize CPU/Memory Performance for SEO Website CMS

Performance before (RED) and Performance now (Green) after the changes

Recently we noticed that our server's CPU Usage was going off the chart for quite short peak times on a regular intervals. This got me interested to look further into that problem and find what was causing this issue. The interesting thing that I found was that those occurrences coincident with RSS feed requests and this immediately brought my attention to our RSS feeds algorithm and its performance.

I've noticed that in order to produce RSS feed, we are generating huge MySQL query that can be as big as 1 MB and all that data is converted and then printed out. This used huge amounts of CPU and Memory for some short period and caused some slow-downs on our server. Actually that wasn't so problematic, but afterall I've descided to improve it and make it quite faster and less CPU intensive.... read more..

SEO website CMS Beta Release Will be Delayed few more months!!!!!!!

date: 2007-06-11
by: Venetsian

Dear All, Unfortunately due to some financial situations in our company, the SEO Website CMS Beta Testing Version release will be delayed. Our project manager (me) took the decision no to release the Beta, but instead release 1.0 version when complete. This decision has been take due to the following reasons:

First, we don't need any beta testers right now, because we already run about 30 websites powered by the SEO Website CMS and they work quite well. Yes there are some bugs, and we are working on them.

Second, the Beta Testing Version was not going to give all the functionality that we implemented mainly because the administration forms for all components and modules are not ready as their development is quite time consuming and we don't want to rush on developing them before we optimize their functionality. We just redeveloped the Social Bookmarking Module and now its totally different because we found that the old one wasn't really functional. On this website we are still using the older version of the SEO Website CMS and you can see that its not really easy to bookmark.... read more..

Social Bookmarking into the Next Level

date: 2007-06-05
by: Venetsian

Due to the increasing demands for Web 2.0 compatibility we've changed the SEO website CMS to have more Social Bookmarking Capabilities and we removed the previous bookmarking menu and placed highly visible buttons with the sole purpose to increase the number of people clicking it. With the previous menu its was rather hard and kind'a invisible but now we can send the web 2.0 message and our request to be bookmarked.

Our latest experiments showed that Web 2.0 social bookmarks are extremely useful source of traffic and should be used as standard feature in our CMS. The best thing about this is that each click equals new link and a that's a good quality link that search engines appreciate quite a lot and therefore this is vital booster for our search engine marketing in both SEO and SEM..... read more..

SEO Website CMS Beta Pre-Release

date: 2007-05-28
by: venetsian

Due to very high demand for the SEO Website CMS, now we are releasing a pre-release of the beta version. Unfortunately we don't have the installer finished, and therefore we offer free installation to your web hosting account. Yes Free! I'm offering this because I'm really confident that you're going to like it, and in the same time your obligations to me will be to report any bugs found so I can fix them before releasing the Beta Stable version.

If you're interested in checking it out, please send me email to support [at] seowebsitecms.com and include your web hosting information so I can login and install it for you

NOTE! Currently if you want to use the directory feature you need the domain to be the primary domain on the web hosting account. It does not work with addon domains!!!! Also your web hosting account must support CURL, if not it wont work! Also note that in order to use the CMS you must know HTML! If you don't know HTML, you want be able to make the maximum out of it and I'd recommend you to use Joomla or Wordpress!

When I release the final beta the update is very easy - you just overwrite the files and that's it. Not patching required!.... read more..

NEW! Backlink Booster Module

Backlink Booster Module - get your backlinks indexed faster!

Today I red one very interesting blog by Blue Hat SEO on Link Saturation with Link Matching which is kind‘a new concept for me and really got me interested. From my own experience I do believe that there is a huge amount of backlinks to our websites sitting there in the middle of nowhere, not being indexed by the search engines because of poor internal linking structure or whatever other reason. The Blue Hat SEO covered the idea that if you help that website get indexed, you will be awarded with good backlink and I definitely agree that this will/is possible with some specific script. Also on his website he proposes the use of PHP/PERL/JAVASCRIPT for pinging this website to get crawled by search engines, but I think there is one quite more intelligent way in which you don‘t have to ping everyone but only confirmed link locations. Here is how:

  • When you find that you receive a hit from a web page (not a search engine), the CMS should check:
  • 1st If this "refferer url" is not already in your CACHED LIST (special location in the database where you keep all referer URLs and their hits) and if it‘s already listed then increase the hits or if its not then:
  • Checks if this referer URL really contains a link to your website and its not from restricted location (aka email or whatever other resource it might be) and if its visible then list in in the referers database and request ping for the search engine crawlers to index that website

One other use for this module can be to easily locate referring URLs that you exchanged links or even paid for and see how many hits you got from them .... read more..

Bug Tracking Report - May 2007

SEO Website CMS Bug Shooter

Last week I remember that I was contacted by one person who was very interested in test driving the new SEO Website CMS, but he underlined the importance of not having too many bugs because he "hates making patches" the hard way -- by add code to this line, remove this line and etc -- so we promised him that we will shoot as many bugs as possible before releasing the beta testing version. Yepp, so that's exactly what we did.

Since the list is quite big, I'll highlight some of the most important bugs that we fixed and some that we're still working on:

  • Security vulnerability for user to enter administrator level only by knowing the user-name. Status FIXED!
  • Submission of listings to the Directory requires user registration. Now we made low level user which does not need to be verified and therefore makes easy submissions. Status FIXED
  • Options for Listing Texts to be changed. Status IN PROGRESS
  • SEKT keyword hit counter increments hits by URL not by Keyword. Status FIXED
  • SEKT option for clearing old listings. Status NOT EVEN STARTED
  • RSS 2.0 Feed returns "wild" characters due to encoding issues. Status PARTIALLY FIXED. Needs more work
  • Manual limit on the number of news and blog listings to be published via RSS. Status FIXED.
  • Per Article manual button for listing being placed on Main Page and Published via RSS. Status PARTIALLY FIXED

We have much more fixes that this but those are the main issues that I can remember.... read more..

SEO Website CMS is now with Built-In-Advertising Module

date: 2007-05-12
by: venetsian

We just finished the first part of the Advertising Module for the SEO Website CMS. Now we have full support for Text-Link-Ads.com and google.com/adsense . With this module you can easily add advertisements to your blog/news/pages by adding short key command inside the text which will be replaced by advertising's when displayed to the web visitors.

This Website Monetizing features will be one really nice extension to the SEO Website CMS and will help quality websites boost up profits and sponsor them for even better content. The idea is not to make MFA (Manufactured For Absence) websites but rather add more useful information to the web visitors..... read more..
